Gujarat High Court to meet Morbi Bridge Victims

The Gujarat High Court has ordered the amicus curiae, along with an independent lawyer, to meet with victims of the Morbi suspension bridge collapse, which occurred on October 30, 2022, resulting in 135 deaths and numerous injuries. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal emphasized the need for an independent assessment of the victims' situations and directed that the visits occur in August, with logistical support from the district collector. The court aims to ensure that all victims feel supported by the judiciary, particularly addressing the case of a victim who has refused compensation. Additionally, the Advocate General reported that the Oreva Group's Trust has initiated quarterly visits to continue supporting the victims' needs. This proactive approach seeks to engage directly with those affected to better understand their ongoing challenges and experiences following the tragedy.
