Mijain Lopez Wins Fifth Gold, Announces Retirement
Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez made history by winning his fifth consecutive gold medal in the 130kg Greco-Roman wrestling category at the Paris Olympics, becoming the first athlete to achieve this feat in the same event across five Games (2008-2024). He announced his retirement by placing his shoes in the center of the mat after defeating Chile's Yasmani Acosta. Other notable wrestling achievements included Japan's Nao Kusaka, Iran's Mohammadhadi Saravi, and American Sarah Hildebrandt winning gold in their respective categories. Meanwhile, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50kg final for failing to make weight, allowing Hildebrandt to face Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman. In another highlight, 14-year-old Australian Arisa Trew became the youngest gold medallist in her country's history by winning the women's park skateboarding event.
