First Bus Depots Achieve Net Zero Status

First Bus has achieved net-zero emissions status for three of its depots located in York, Leicester, and Norwich, marking a significant milestone for the UK public transport sector. This accomplishment stems from a fully electrified fleet and substantial carbon reduction measures, including replacing gas heating with electric systems and installing solar panels. The operator reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by over 90% compared to a 2020 baseline, offsetting remaining emissions through Verified Carbon Standard projects. Chief Sustainability Officer Isabel McAllister emphasized the importance of this achievement in leading the bus industry's sustainability efforts. Additionally, First Bus is repowering existing diesel buses into electric vehicles, furthering its commitment to reduce carbon emissions. This net-zero blueprint aims to guide the company's broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.
