With energy bills set to rise by £149 in October, Lewis warned that almost all pensioners will need to find hundreds of pounds more than last winter. He advocates for a broader eligibility based on council tax bands to include more pensioners in need of assistance. The loss of specific support, including last year's additional cost of living payment of up to £300, further exacerbates the financial strain on vulnerable households. Lewis is scheduled to meet with Reeves to discuss potential solutions and adjustments to the Winter Fuel Payments structure.
