Two Crashes Leave One Child Dead, Another Injured

Kerri A. Bedrick, a 32-year-old mother from Centerport, NY, has been charged with multiple offenses including aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, and aggravated DWI after a wrong-way crash on the Southern State Parkway resulted in the death of her 9-year-old son, Eli D. Henrys. Bedrick, who had 56 prior license suspensions, was driving under the influence and ignored police attempts to stop her before causing a four-car collision. Despite attempts to save Eli's life, he succumbed to his injuries. Bedrick's attorney entered a not guilty plea, citing her medical conditions and victim status in a domestic violence case. The case is being presented to a grand jury for potential homicide charges. In Henrico County, VA, a crash on Wistar Road killed 22-year-old Retika Haider and left an elementary school-aged boy critically injured when a BMW lost control and was struck by an oncoming car.
