The UK's military is ill-prepared for an all-out war, with an overextended military, stockpile shortages, and recruitment crisis, according to MPs. The government is at risk of being unable to build true warfighting and strategic readiness due to the sheer pace of operations. Former defence procurement minister Sir Jeremy Quin MP described the armed services as a 'world-class fighting force', but acknowledged readiness for all-out war has received insufficient attention. Admiral Rob Bauer, chairman of the NATO military committee, has said its forces are preparing for war with Russia, while Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warned we are living in a 'pre-war world'.
