Kellogg Bridge Reconstruction Begins in St. Paul

The Kellogg/Third Street Bridge in St. Paul has closed for a three-year, $92 million reconstruction project to address structural deficiencies found in a 2014 review. The project, funded by federal, state, and local sources, will replace the bridge with a new design featuring four traffic lanes and separate pedestrian and bike paths. The bridge closure affects 14,000 daily commuters, who will need to find alternative routes. Local leaders, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Mayor Melvin Carter, emphasized the project's significance for safety and connectivity between downtown St. Paul and the city's east side. In Joliet, Illinois, the Ruby Street Bridge over the Des Plaines River will close for several days to install aerial towers, with detours in place for both regular and truck traffic.
