Man Charged with Murder in Myrtle Beach Case

Sheridan Dirk Fogle, a 54-year-old man from Orangeburg, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Penni Whiteside, who was reported missing in May 2022. Fogle was living with Whiteside at the time of her disappearance, and investigators obtained a search warrant for his property following reports from neighbors suggesting she might be buried under a firepit in the backyard. On June 12, 2024, during the search, authorities recovered and identified Whiteside's remains. The arrest warrant was served on August 29, 2024, in Orangeburg, where Fogle was apprehended. Myrtle Beach police have described the incident as a tragic loss of life resulting from a senseless crime of violence. The identity of the victim was confirmed, but it has not been publicly released yet.
