INS Satvahana Honors Jyothi Yarraji
Indian athlete Jyothi Yarraji was honored by INS Satvahana under the Eastern Naval Command for her historic achievement as the first female Olympic hurdler from India during a ceremony in Visakhapatnam. Despite not advancing to the semifinals at the Paris Olympics, where she finished fourth in the repechage round, her participation marked a significant milestone for India, being the first Indian woman to compete in this event since its inclusion in the Olympics in 1972. Jyothi shared her inspiring journey at the event, motivating young naval personnel, including Agniveers, to pursue their dreams. Earlier this year, she also made history by winning India's first medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, securing gold in the 60m hurdles and setting a national record. The event was attended by the Secretary of the AP Athletics Association, highlighting the importance of her achievements.
