Academy of Motion Picture Arts Expands Membership with 487 New Invitees

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 487 new members, including notable figures such as actresses Lily Gladstone, Jessica Alba, Shabana Azmi, and directors SS Rajamouli and Rima Das. This year's class includes 71 Oscar nominees and 19 winners, with 44% identifying as women and 41% from underrepresented ethnic and racial communities. Noteworthy invitees also include Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara, American actress Kate Mara, and choreographer Prem Rakshith. The Academy's efforts to boost diversity continue, as evidenced by this diverse group of global talent from 56 countries. The new members will bring the total eligible voting membership to 9,934 for the 97th Oscars in 2025.
