Delhi Ward Elections Set Amid Political Shifts

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will hold ward committee elections across its 12 zones on September 4, with nominations closing on August 30. These elections are crucial for forming the MCD Standing Committee, the corporation's highest decision-making body. Two AAP councillors, Prem Chauhan and Tilotma Chaudhary, sought to reschedule the elections citing insufficient time to file nominations, but the Delhi High Court rejected their plea. Justice Purushaindra Kaurav emphasized that the court cannot interfere with the election schedule set by the MCD commissioner. The elections come amid a political shift, with five AAP councillors recently joining the BJP. The elections will be conducted via secret ballot, with each ward committee electing a chairman, deputy chairman, and a Standing Committee member.
