32 killed in Somalia
A suicide bombing and gunfire attack by al-Shabab militants at a beachside hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, resulted in at least 32 deaths and 63 injuries. The assault began when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive, followed by armed attackers storming the area, leading to chaos among civilians. Somali Police reported that security forces killed five attackers and a suicide bomber, while also evacuating trapped civilians and defusing a car bomb nearby. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance against such 'barbaric' acts. Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda affiliate, has been responsible for numerous attacks in the region, targeting crowded areas to inflict maximum casualties. This incident marks one of the deadliest attacks in Somalia in recent months, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by the government.
