Tornado Derails 43 BNSF Train Cars in ND
A tornado between 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday night near Steele, North Dakota, derailed around 43 empty BNSF Railway cars. The extreme weather, which included high winds and hail, caused no injuries or hazardous material spills. BNSF cleanup crews began work early Thursday morning to address the derailed cars. The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornado sightings across the region, including three in North Dakota and two in South Dakota. Despite significant damage to the rail cars, nearby homes and structures were largely spared. The incident is part of a broader storm system that affected various parts of the Dakotas, causing damage to power poles and trees but no reported injuries.
