Andy Macdonald on skateboarding
Andy Macdonald, at 51 years old, became the oldest skateboarder to compete in the Olympics, representing Team GB in the men's park preliminaries. Despite his impressive history and support from fellow legend Tony Hawk, Macdonald finished 18th with a score of 77.66, missing the final. He has been pivotal in skateboarding's growth over nearly four decades, competing professionally since 1994. His participation was motivated by a desire for new opportunities after the pandemic impacted his career. Macdonald's eligibility for Team GB stems from his British father, making him the first male skater to represent the country at the Olympics. Although he didn't qualify for the finals, his appearance brought joy to many skateboarding fans.
