Engineer Jumps Off Atal Setu Bridge in Mumbai

K. Shriniwas, a 38-year-old engineer from Dombivli, reportedly died by suicide on Wednesday by jumping off the Atal Setu bridge in Mumbai amid alleged financial difficulties. Before the incident, he left his personal documents on the bridge and had spoken to his wife and young daughter shortly before his leap. Authorities, including police and local fishermen, launched a search operation but faced challenges due to rough sea conditions. Shriniwas had previously attempted suicide in Kuwait in 2023 and was struggling with debts after returning to India and starting an electrical contracting business. The police confirmed his identity through an Aadhaar card found in his abandoned vehicle, which was parked at the bridge. No suicide note was recovered, leaving the exact motivations unclear, though financial stress appears to be a significant factor.
