Malayalam Film Industry Faces Major Scandal

The Malayalam film industry is embroiled in a major scandal with multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault against prominent figures. Actor and CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh has been accused of rape, leading to calls for his resignation from within his party. Alongside Mukesh, actors Jayasurya, Siddique, and director Ranjith face serious charges, with FIRs registered against them based on complaints from several actresses and an aspiring actor. The allegations have prompted resignations from key positions within the industry, including Siddique stepping down as AMMA general secretary and Ranjith resigning from the Kerala Chalachitra Academy. The Justice Hema Committee report has revealed widespread harassment in the industry, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Kerala government. The SIT will investigate the numerous complaints, highlighting an urgent need for systemic change within the Malayalam film industry.
