Mirabai Chanu Finishes Fourth at Paris Olympics

Mirabai Chanu, India’s Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, narrowly missed a podium finish, securing fourth place in the women's 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a total lift of 199kg. Chanu showcased strong performances in both the snatch and clean-and-jerk segments but fell short by 1kg to Thailand's Surodchana Khambao, who took bronze. China's Hou Zhihui won the gold with a total of 206kg, and Romania's Mihaela Valentina Cambei claimed silver with 205kg. Despite her efforts and overcoming significant personal and physical challenges, including injuries, time away from family, and mental stress, Chanu’s lifts were not enough to surpass her competitors. Chanu's journey to Paris was fraught with difficulties, highlighting her resilience and determination.
