Ancient Greek Marble Vases Repatriated to Greece

Two ancient Greek marble vases, dating back to the 4th century B.C. and once part of Athenian graves, have been repatriated to Greece from Switzerland after a lengthy legal battle. The vases, adorned with relief sculptures, depict emotional family scenes and intricate plant motifs, despite bearing damage from their clandestine excavation and illegal export. Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni highlighted the ministry's commitment to repatriating looted antiquities, considering it a top political priority, and emphasized the successful return of these vases as part of a series of high-profile repatriations. Discovered in Basel, Switzerland, in 2002 and returned to Greece on June 26, these artefacts will be showcased at a museum alongside other finds from the Kerameikos, ancient Athens' main cemetery.
