Tent Collapse at Alberta Meditation Centre Kills One
A severe weather event led to the collapse of a large tent structure at the Westlock Meditation Centre near Busby, Alberta, resulting in one fatality and over 50 injuries. Emergency responders, including RCMP, EMS, and fire crews from nearby detachments, were called to the scene around 5:27 p.m. The incident occurred amidst strong winds and rain, with approximately 100 to 200 people inside the tent at the time. Occupational Health and Safety officials, along with the RCMP, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse. The center, operated by the Edmonton Buddhist Research Institute, was scheduled to host an 11-day retreat. Alberta's Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis has expressed the government's support for first responders handling the situation.
