Wallace “Wally” Amos Jr., the founder of Famous Amos cookies, has died at the age of 88 due to complications from dementia. Amos, known for his Panama hat, kazoo, and boundless optimism, passed away at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii, with his wife Carol by his side. He initially rose to fame with his cookie store on Sunset Boulevard in 1975, which quickly became a multimillion-dollar business. Despite financial difficulties leading to the loss of his company, Amos remained a beloved figure, known for his generosity and advocacy for childhood literacy. His children described him as a source of Black pride and a great American success story. Amos also authored several books and continued to inspire entrepreneurs throughout his life.
