Odisha Launches Online Electricity Bill Payment System

The NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited has integrated three electricity distribution companies from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana into the Bharat Bill Payment System, enabling secure and convenient electricity bill payments through various platforms. This initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion and improve digital access for millions of consumers. Meanwhile, the Odisha government launched the Government Consumer Management System (GCMS) app and website to streamline electricity bill payments for panchayats, addressing issues related to delayed payments and increasing efficiency. This system allows panchayats to access, approve, and pay bills quickly using a secure OTP mechanism. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh has linked arms license renewals to the payment of overdue electricity bills to combat unpaid bills and electricity theft. These developments reflect a broader trend towards digital solutions in public service delivery across India.
