US Figure Skating Team Awarded 2022 Gold Medals

The U.S. Olympic figure skating team finally received their gold medals in Paris, 2½ years after competing in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This follows the disqualification of Russian skater Kamila Valieva for doping, which originally led the Russian team to win gold. The International Olympic Committee had delayed awarding the medals until Valieva's case was resolved. The Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed the disqualification in January 2024, upgrading the U.S. team to gold and Japan to silver. The ceremony, held at Champions Park with the Eiffel Tower in the background, allowed the athletes to celebrate their victory surrounded by fans, family, and friends.
