Nishad Kumar Wins Silver at Paris Paralympics
Nishad Kumar has won a silver medal in the men's T47 high jump at the Paris Paralympics, marking India's seventh overall medal in the event. Kumar achieved a season-best jump of 2.04 meters but fell short of gold after failing to clear 2.08 meters, while Roderick Townsend of the USA secured the gold with a jump of 2.12 meters. This silver marks Kumar's second consecutive Paralympic medal after winning silver in Tokyo 2020. Additionally, Preethi Pal made history by becoming the first Indian female track and field athlete to win two medals at the Paralympics, earning a bronze in the women's 200m T35. Kumar's achievement adds to India's growing success in para-athletics at the Games, with the country winning three medals so far in this category. Despite his impressive performance, Kumar expressed disappointment over not securing gold, reflecting on his journey and dedication to para-athletics.
