Billionaire Ken Griffin, founder of Citadel, purchased the nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton, named 'Apex,' for a record-setting $44.6 million at a Sotheby's auction. The fossil, which dates back approximately 150 million years, was discovered by paleontologist Jason Cooper in Colorado and features 254 of its 319 bones. Griffin plans to loan 'Apex' to a U.S. institution to ensure public access. This sale significantly surpasses previous records for dinosaur fossils, including the $31.8 million paid for a T. rex named 'Stan.' Despite the excitement, some scientists express concern over the commercialization of such valuable scientific specimens.
