Rep. Maloy Wins Recount Despite Issues

The recount in Utah's 2nd Congressional District Republican primary confirmed Rep. Celeste Maloy's narrow victory over challenger Colby Jenkins, although her lead shrank from 214 to 176 votes. Software issues in Tooele and Washington counties initially led to some ballots not being counted, but these were corrected during the recount. The recount added 35 votes for Jenkins but did not change the overall outcome. Jenkins, who has also filed a lawsuit with the Utah Supreme Court to count over 1,000 disqualified ballots, awaits a decision that could potentially alter the race results. Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson assured that the recount process was transparent and accurate, but expressed concern over the software issues. Both candidates have made statements acknowledging the recount results, with Maloy now preparing for the November election.
