Egyptian Ship Seized at Paradip Port
The MV Wadi Albostan, an Egyptian-flagged bulk carrier, has been detained at Paradip Port in Odisha following an order from the Orissa High Court due to a financial dispute involving an outstanding debt of approximately Rs 4 crore owed to a German company for low-sulfur marine gas oil. The vessel, which arrived on August 6 from Bangladesh and was en route to China carrying 55,000 metric tons of iron ore, was seized with the assistance of local police. The court appointed the Kujang sub-judge as Marshal to oversee the arrest, which prevents the ship from leaving until further notice. This incident marks the third ship seizure at Paradip Port in the past four months, following the recent detention of a Chinese vessel under similar circumstances. The legal action underscores the enforcement of maritime claims under admiralty law, which allows for the arrest of vessels over ownership and financial disputes.
