Rob Burrow Honored by Thousands at Funeral
Rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who passed away on June 2 at the age of 41 after a five-year battle with motor neurone disease (MND), was honored with a private funeral service at Pontefract Crematorium on July 7. The date coincided with 'Rob Burrow Day,' an annual celebration established by Leeds Rhinos in 2021. Thousands of fans and mourners lined the 12-mile funeral cortege route, applauding and paying tribute to Burrow's inspiring life and career. Burrow, a celebrated Leeds Rhinos player, dedicated his final years to raising awareness and millions of pounds for MND research. His close friend Kevin Sinfield, also a major MND fundraiser, flew from New Zealand to attend the service. The funeral procession included poignant stops at significant locations from Burrow's life, including Featherstone Lions Rugby Club, where he began his rugby career.
