Two women, Rosanna Lisa Stanley and Gina Guy, have been charged by federal prosecutors for orchestrating a long-running romance scam targeting elderly men, defrauding at least 16 victims of over $7 million. The scheme, spanning from 2009 until their recent arrest, involved luring victims into false romantic relationships and extracting money under various pretexts like fake businesses and organ transplants. Both women face charges of money laundering, wire fraud, and conspiracy, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years. The victims, seeking companionship, were manipulated into providing significant sums, leading to luxurious lifestyles for the scammers at the victims' expense. The arrests highlight the accountability perpetrators of romance scams will face, as stated by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams.
