DUI in Santa Rosa
A tragic three-vehicle crash in Santa Rosa on Friday resulted in the death of 31-year-old Jessica Avila Munoz, a juvenile correctional counselor and single mother, who was making a left turn when her Honda was struck by a pickup truck driven by 68-year-old Nhan Van Nguyen. Nguyen, who has four prior DUI convictions and was driving with a suspended license, allegedly ran a red light, leading to the fatal collision. Munoz was trapped in her vehicle and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Nguyen was arrested and faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI causing great bodily injury after being found under the influence of alcohol. The intersection was closed for about six hours during the investigation, prompting an outpouring of grief from local law enforcement. The incident underscores concerns about repeat DUI offenders on the roads.
