Apple Halts Vision Pro Development to Focus on Cheaper Model Amid Criticism and Slow Sales

Apple has suspended work on the next-generation, high-end Vision Pro mixed-reality headset due to slower-than-expected sales and is now focusing on a more affordable version. The current Vision Pro, priced at $3,500, has faced criticism for its high cost, weight, and user discomfort, leading to lower demand. Apple plans to release the cheaper model, possibly priced around $1,600, by the end of 2025, aiming to make it lighter and with fewer features. This shift mirrors Apple's strategy with its iPhone product line, offering both 'Pro' and standard versions. Despite halting the high-end model, Apple continues to expand the Vision Pro's availability globally and improve its software platform, VisionOS. Some suppliers have already cut production by half due to lower-than-expected demand forecasts from Apple.
