Greece Battles Massive Wildfire Near Athens

Greece is facing a devastating wildfire near Athens that has prompted the deployment of hundreds of European firefighters to assist in the battle against the blaze, which has forced thousands to evacuate. The fire, fueled by strong winds and high temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius, has scorched over 10,000 hectares and resulted in at least one confirmed death and numerous injuries. Currently, around 700 firefighters, supported by fire engines and aircraft, are engaged in firefighting efforts as conditions remain challenging. The Greek government has requested international support, leading to additional resources coming in from several EU countries.
