Indonesia wins gold

Indonesia made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning two gold medals in sports that had not previously contributed golds, marking the first Olympic golds outside badminton for the nation. Veddriq Leonardo secured gold in the men’s speed rock climbing event, finishing with a time of 4.75 seconds, narrowly beating China's Wu Peng by 0.02 seconds. Shortly after, weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah claimed gold in the men’s 73 kg category with a total lift of 354 kg, including an Olympic record clean and jerk of 199 kg. These achievements have been celebrated as a significant breakthrough for Indonesian sports, with former badminton champion Greysia Polii expressing her pride and emotional response to the victories. The success has relieved the long-standing pressure on badminton as Indonesia's mainstay sport, highlighting the country's growing prowess in diverse athletic fields.
