Vijaya Lakshmi, a 48-year-old Indian tourist, disappeared into a 26-foot sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 23, 2024, while walking to a nearby temple. Rescue operations, now in their sixth day, have only found her shoes, and authorities are using ground-penetrating radars, high-pressure water jets, and remote cameras to locate her. Heavy rains have complicated the search, and a second sinkhole was discovered 50 meters away from the first.
