Najib Razak's Sentence Reduced, Fine Specified

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's 12-year prison sentence for corruption was reduced to six years by the Federal Territories Pardon Board. His fine was also reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million ($44.3m). Najib, convicted of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering related to the 1MDB scandal, may face an additional year of sentence if he does not pay the reduced fine in full before his new scheduled release date of 23 August 2028. He may be out on parole for good behavior in August 2026.
