Search Continues for Woman in Kuala Lumpur Sinkhole

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif has defended the city's safety amid ongoing search-and-rescue efforts for 48-year-old Indian tourist Vijayaletchumy, who fell into a sinkhole on August 23. The mayor stated that Kuala Lumpur remains safe unless studies indicate otherwise, addressing concerns raised by alarming media reports and social media posts suggesting the city is unsafe. As search efforts continue, including using water jets to clear debris, only the victim's slippers have been recovered so far. A task force involving various departments has been established to assess the safety of the area. The mayor urged residents to maintain their routines, emphasizing that the situation is under control. The family of the victim is receiving support, including food and accommodation, while arrangements for visa extensions are being made if necessary.
