An investigation by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has revealed significant shortcomings in their response to a violent settler attack on the Palestinian village of Jit on August 15, which resulted in at least one Palestinian death. The IDF acknowledged that initial troops failed to assess the situation and act decisively as approximately 100 masked settlers set fire to vehicles and homes. Major General Avi Bluth described the incident as a 'very serious terror incident' and emphasized the military's failure to arrive in time to protect the villagers. Following the attack, four suspects were arrested, and further investigations are ongoing, with additional arrests anticipated. The IDF's findings indicated that while some troops later acted assertively to disperse the rioters and rescue trapped Palestinian families, there were significant delays that exacerbated the violence. The investigation has led to discipline for two members of a local security team who acted beyond their authority during the crisis.
