Gov. Lamont Nominates Raheem Mullins as Chief Justice
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has nominated Raheem Mullins, currently an associate justice, to serve as the next Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court. If confirmed, Mullins would become the second Black chief justice in Connecticut's history and the youngest individual to serve in this role. Lamont praised Mullins' extensive judicial experience and his empathetic character, highlighting a commitment to enhancing the judicial system's accessibility and fairness. Mullins, who has served in various capacities within the state court system since 2012, expressed his gratitude for the nomination and an eagerness to tackle upcoming challenges. He will serve as interim Chief Justice until lawmakers vote on his nomination in January 2025. The nomination follows the retirement of Chief Justice Richard Robinson, who endorsed Mullins as his successor.
