Tillotama Shome recently recounted a harrowing incident of molestation she experienced in Delhi while waiting for a bus. As she stood at the bus stop in the darkening winter evening, a car with six men approached, leading to catcalling and harassment. In a desperate attempt to escape, she decided to hitch a ride, ultimately getting into a car marked with a medical sign, believing it to be safer. However, the driver then attempted to force her hand after unzipping his pants. Shome instinctively fought back, causing him to stop the car and demand she exit. Reflecting on the traumatic experience, she emphasized the need for heightened awareness and safety regarding women's issues in society.
