Silver Spring Man Sentenced for Brutal Attack

Geofrey Gaitan, a 31-year-old man from Silver Spring, Maryland, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for the brutal attack on his landlord, Nicholas Miranda, over a rent dispute in April 2020. Gaitan was found guilty of second-degree attempted murder in April 2024 after two previous trials ended with hung juries. The attack involved Gaitan repeatedly hitting Miranda with wooden table legs and stomping on his head, resulting in multiple skull fractures and permanent brain injury. Police found Miranda unconscious in a pool of blood in the kitchen and Gaitan standing in the driveway with blood on his shoes. Gaitan will also face five years of supervised probation upon his release. The case highlights the persistence of prosecutors in seeking justice despite initial mistrials.
