Bulgarian weightlifter Karlos Nasar set a world record by lifting a total of 404kg, securing gold in the men's 89kg category at the Paris Olympics. Nasar's performance included a clean and jerk lift of 224kg, surpassing his own previous record. Colombia's Yeison Lopez earned the silver medal with a total of 390kg, while Italy's Antonino Pizzolato claimed bronze with 384kg. In the women's 71kg category, American Olivia Reeves won gold with a total lift of 262kg, followed by Colombia's Mari Sanchez and Ecuador's Angie Palacios. Nasar, who has been setting records since he was 17, expressed his excitement and emotional connection to the sport after his victory.
