Woman Found Dead After Grand Canyon Flood
Chenoa Nickerson, a 33-year-old woman from Gilbert, Arizona, was found dead following a flash flood near the Grand Canyon after being swept away while hiking. Her body was discovered 20 miles downstream on the Colorado River, three days after she was reported missing. The flood, which occurred on Thursday, trapped several hikers and prompted rescue efforts involving over 100 individuals using helicopters and ground vehicles. The Havasupai Tribal Council has since closed its territory to visitors to focus on evacuations and recovery operations. Nickerson's family expressed gratitude for the rescue teams’ efforts amid challenging conditions, as they sought information on her whereabouts during the search. The incident highlights the dangers of hiking in areas prone to sudden floods.
