Endangered Matschie's Tree Kangaroo Born at Bronx Zoo

A Matschie's tree kangaroo joey, born in December at the Bronx Zoo, made its first appearance from its mother's pouch, becoming the second of its species born at the zoo to this female since 2021. These tree kangaroos, considered endangered with only about 2,500 left in the wild, face threats like habitat destruction and hunting. The birth is a result of the zoo's participation in a cooperative breeding program, aiming to maintain genetic diversity in zoo populations. Visitors can see the joey and its mother in the Bronx Zoo's JungleWorld exhibit, contributing to the zoo's conservation efforts.
