Efforts Underway to Save Glasgow Subway Cars

Efforts are underway to save Glasgow's decommissioned Metro-Cammell subway carriages from the scrapyard, with only one of the 33 cars currently preserved at the Riverside Transport Museum. Ben Denton-Cardew, a rail industry lawyer and former University of Glasgow student, is leading a coalition to acquire around ten of the cars for use as movie props and glamping pods. He emphasizes the cultural significance of the subway carriages, stating they are integral to the city's heritage. Swiss firm Stadler Rail, which acquired the remaining carriages, has set a price of £5,000 each but is willing to waive this fee for charitable organizations before the end of August. Labour MSP Paul Sweeney is also involved in negotiations to facilitate the preservation of these historic trains. The urgency of the situation is highlighted as the remaining cars face scrapping if no action is taken soon.
