Twelve Family Members Die in Roof Collapse in Pakistan
A tragic roof collapse in Upper Dir, Pakistan, has resulted in the deaths of twelve family members, including women and children, amid severe monsoon rains. The incident occurred in Maidan tehsil, with the bodies recovered and transported to Maidan Hospital following a search operation. This calamity underscores the devastating impact of Pakistan's ongoing monsoon season, which has led to significant infrastructure damage and numerous fatalities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As of the end of August, government reports indicate a total of 74 deaths and 128 injuries due to the monsoon, with over 906 homes damaged. Additionally, heavy rains have caused further destruction in other regions, including an incident in southern Pakistan where mud houses collapsed, injuring around 25 people. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rainfall, exacerbating the already challenging situation.
