Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Delhi Judges
The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, has recommended three advocates—Ajay Digpaul, Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, and Shwetasree Majumder—for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court. The recommendation followed a thorough assessment of their professional competence and integrity, with the Collegium consulting a judge familiar with the Delhi HC affairs to evaluate their suitability. Digpaul, with 31 years of experience across various legal fields, Shankar, noted for his extensive practice evidenced by 180 reported judgments, and Majumder, recognized for her expertise in Intellectual Property Rights, were all deemed fit for the role. The Delhi High Court currently operates with only 39 judges against a sanctioned strength of 60, highlighting the need for such appointments. The final decision now rests with the Centre, which will confirm the recommendations. Their inter se seniority will be determined according to existing practices.
