Farmers protest in Rajpura
Farmers across India and Europe are actively protesting against various grievances related to land rights, agricultural policies, and corruption. In Punjab, farmers demanded the return of 533 acres of unused land acquired at a low price for a private company, asserting that the land should be returned to its original owners as stipulated in an expired agreement. Meanwhile, in Kerala, farmers plan to observe August 17 as a 'farmers’ rights protection day' to highlight their demands for fair pricing and timely payments for their crops. Additionally, protests in Roorkee have erupted over allegations of corruption within the transport department, with farmers claiming they are forced to pay bribes for their work to be processed. In Europe, tens of thousands of farmers have blocked highways and driven tractors to protest against EU agricultural policies that they believe disadvantage them, calling for a comprehensive action plan from EU leaders. The escalating unrest among farmers reflects a broader issue of discontent with governmental policies and practices affecting their livelihoods.
