Reed Hastings Announces Skiable Art Park in Utah

Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix, is transforming Utah's Powder Mountain ski resort into a public art destination featuring large-scale sculptures and installations from prominent artists like James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, and Paul McCarthy. The outdoor art park, which aims to integrate art with the mountain landscape, will open in phases, with select works debuting during the 2024-2025 ski season and a grand opening planned for 2026. The project, envisioned by Hastings along with Matthew Thompson and others, focuses on creating a multi-season recreational space that emphasizes community and artistic expression. Notable installations will include Turrell's light piece Ganzfeld Apani and Holzer's text engravings on rock. Additional artists involved in the initial round of commissions include EJ Hill, Arthur Jafa, and Nikita Gale, with more to be announced. This initiative marks a significant shift for the resort, which Hastings previously privatized, now aiming to reclaim its public accessibility and cultural relevance.
