Imane Khelif Files Lawsuit Against Rowling, Musk

Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif has filed a lawsuit in France against J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk, and others, alleging 'acts of aggravated cyber harassment.' This legal action follows a media controversy surrounding Khelif's gender identity after her opponent withdrew from a match, leading to false claims about her being transgender. Khelif's lawyer, Nabil Boudi, described the online harassment as a 'misogynist, racist and sexist campaign,' and indicated that Donald Trump might also be investigated due to his tweets related to the case. The lawsuit targets X (formerly Twitter) to allow for a broad investigation of potential harassers, including those posting under pseudonyms. Khelif's situation has drawn significant media attention, especially after being cleared to compete by the IOC despite a prior disqualification from the IBA. If pursued, those named in the complaint could face trial in France’s prosecution of online hate speech.
