Indian Automakers Offer Discounts for Vehicle Scrappage
In a bid to promote vehicle scrapping and enhance the circular economy, several passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturers in India will offer discounts of 1.5-3% on new vehicle purchases for buyers who present a valid Scrappage Certificate. This initiative, endorsed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, aims to phase out older, less efficient vehicles from the roads. Notably, Mercedes-Benz India is providing an additional flat discount of ₹25,000 on top of existing offers. The discounts will be available for a limited period, with commercial vehicle manufacturers offering them for two years and passenger manufacturers for one year. Gadkari emphasized the importance of creating a scrapping hub in South Asia and the potential job creation associated with the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, which was launched in August 2021 and became effective in April 2022.
