Indian President Droupadi Murmu Visits Fiji
The Fijian Health Ministry is taking steps to address a significant shortage of dental hygienists by re-engaging retired professionals, with 50 out of 80 positions currently vacant. Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu announced that dental hygienists over the age of 60 who are medically fit will be re-employed, and new dental assistant roles will be created. Meanwhile, Indian President Droupadi Murmu's historic two-day visit to Fiji highlighted strong bilateral relations and included a ceremonial welcome and discussions with Fijian leaders. Murmu's visit, the first by an Indian head of state to Fiji, emphasized democratic values and initiated projects like a Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital. She also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi during her stay and received Fiji's highest civilian award. Murmu's trip aims to further India's Act East Policy by strengthening ties with Fiji and will continue to New Zealand and Timor-Leste.
